2010 Lawrence Sessions
Here is a list of the sessions for the Fall Conference at KU so far:
Using Alternative Story Forms (Doug Ward, KU) Sometimes a traditional narrative just isn’t right, especially on the Web. This workshop will look at how to use alternative story forms to present information in ways you might not have considered before. Using print and online examples, the workshop will show how a different way of thinking about information can make stories more attractive and more readable.
Photo Phabulous (Kathy Habiger, Mill Valley)It’s everything you needed to know about photo composition, cropping, editing, lens selection, file management and staff organization in 50 minutes. Come aboard the photo crazy train.
Kansas City Here We Come! (Kathy Habiger and Amy Morgan) The JEA/NSPA national convention is coming to Kansas City, Nov. 11-14. This session will bring the local committee chairs together for a Q&A about anything convention-related. We’ll talk travel, stuff to do in KC, volunteer opportunities and convention logistics. Bring your questions!
AP Style and Grammer (Sue Novak, KU) An overview of the AP Style Book and basic grammar and punctuation, but it employs a lot of fun errors that have gone out in publications. The students will take part in answering questions and correcting the style problems I show on the screen.
Digital Photojournalism Ethics (Jim McCrossen, Blue Valley Northwest HS) Students will study examples of how the professional media are messing us up as we are learning how to be ethical in our journalistic pursuits.
Photo Basics (Jim McCrossen, Blue Valley Northwest HS) This session will cover the basics of using your camera. We will learn how to control motion, depth of field and light.
How to Create Ads That Work (Bob Basow, KU) Students will learn to create simple, effective ads that tell students what they need to know.
