FHSU Conference

JEA President Mark Newton

The 2011 Hays conference/workshop on Monday, Sept. 26, will be at the FHSU Memorial Union. This year’s conference again will offer hands-on workshops and alternative learning sessions that will complement the more traditional presentations.

Here are the features of the conference/workshop:

  • A keynote address by Mark Newton, President of the Journalism Education Association and journalism adviser at Mountain Vista High School in Highlands Ranch, Colo.
  • Hands‐on immersion sessions in photography, theme and design, and writing (These are two‐and‐a‐half‐hour sessions for a limited number of experienced students)
  • Instruction sessions in photography, theme and design, and writing (These are 95‐minute sessions for a limited number of beginning students)
  • Critique sessions in photography, theme and design, and writing (These are 30‐minute mini‐sessions for experienced students to get feedback)
  • Traditional instructional sessions on a variety of topics (These are 50‐minute sessions presented by professionals, college educators and high school advisers)
  • A Swap Shop where newspaper and yearbook editors from various school can share their publications and discuss the challenges they face as editors

Parking is available on campus near the Union, and instructions will be sent with your conference registration confirmation. Registration information will be sent to Kansas advisers in late August, but make plans now to attend the conference on Sept. 26. We will begin registration that day by 8 a.m. and finish the conference by 2 p.m.
