2010 Contest (Past)

Thanks to everyone for their participation and patience during the 2010 regional contests.

2010 REGIONAL CONTEST RESULTS

*Note on Emporia results: Extra honorable mentions were awarded to students in 3A and 4A where students from Andover High School competed and placed.

Because of a clerical error at the contest site, Andover was entered in and judged as a Class 4A school, not a 5A school, where they were assigned.
The KSPA Contest Committee, per the KSPA constitution, met and decided that Andover will compete as a 5A school at state based on their regional results, and that additional students in 3A and 4A would be given honorable mention and invited to state competition. The KSPA President and Executive Director stand behind and take responsibility for that decision.
First-, second- and third-place winners and all honorable mentions in every category will be invited to compete at state, scheduled for May 1, 2010, in Lawrence. Those invitations will be sent out via e-mail to advisers by March 12, 2010.

Please e-mail us at staff@kspaonline.org with your questions, commendations and concerns. You may also call 785-964-0605.

(NEW CONTEST NOTE: A photo illustration is a created image designed not to record an event, but rather to illustrate a concept. Find the concept introduced by the news story in the entry and then create a photo-based illustration of that concept. The manipulation of the image must be obvious, and photo illustrations are always labeled as such, in order to differentiate them from news photographs. Begin by taking an original photo or photos, or finding them in the public domain. Here are some examples from the Best of Photojournalism professional competition: 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006.)
