Judges have finished combing through, critiquing and ranking 1,150 entries in the KSPA State Contest at the Kansas Union on the University of Kansas campus, and overall sweepstakes results are final.
In Class 6A, Shawnee Mission East again captured the state sweepstakes crown. Other winners include repeat 5A champion Mill Valley, Piper in Class 4A, repeat champion Phillipsburg in Class 3A, and Chase County in Class 2A. Three schools (Satanta, Yates Center and Lincoln) tied for first in Class 1A.
More than 940 students from 109 schools competed in the contest, which offered 11 carry-in and nine on-site contests. The fifty judges awarded first-place finishers 5 points toward the Sweepstakes Trophy competition, second places earned 4 points, third places earned 3 points, and all honorable mentions earned 1 point each.
While students competed, the KSPA membership held its annual meeting and honored three award winners:
- Hall of Fame inductee Nancy Hall;
