Blue Valley photo wins November contest

Meagan Kabel of Blue Valley High School earned Best in Show distinction in KSPA’s Photo of the Month contest for November.

Meagan’s photo of a child and her mother was lauded by judges from the University of Kansas School of Journalism: “You capture a great moment. This is really, REALLY nice. Great work. Keep it up.”

Four other photojournalists were recognized for their outstanding work:

• Izzy Wagers, Washburn Rural HS, Best Sports Photo;
• Shauna Greenlee, Maize HS, Best Feature Photo;
• Sarah Vanier, Salina Central HS, Best Feature Photo (2nd);
• Courtney Worthington, Shawnee Mission North HS, Best News Photo.

KSPA’s next Photo of the Month contest deadline is Jan. 29 for photos taken between Dec. 1 and Jan. 28. Again, photos will be judged in news, features and sports, and students from newspaper, newsmagazine, yearbook and Web journalism staffs may submit photos. Two students from each school are allowed to compete. The entry fee is $5 if your school has not already paid. The entry form is under “Links” to the right of this story.
