Kevin Simpson of Shawnee Mission East was judged first place in feature writing for his story of a senior’s battle with cancer in the September KSPA Story of the Month contest.

Andrew Goble, also from Shawnee Mission East, was judged first place in news writing, Ashley Golden of Maize High School was judged first place in opinion writing, Ryan Crews of Pittsburg High School was judged first place in sports writing and Tenille Iskra of Mill Valley was judged first place in video news for the first Story of the Month contest.

The judges were impressed with the quality of the feature stories and had a difficult time choosing the top ones. Kat Buchanan of Shawnee Mission East was judged second place, Maria Davison of Shawnee Mission Northwest received third place and Kate Strombom of Blue Valley Northwest was judged fourth place in the feature story division of the contest.
