Derby North Middle School hosted the Middle School Workshop on April 1. Mary Patrick began the workshop sharing all the opportunities available through KSPA. Twenty-four middle school students experienced a packed day of presentations from basics of theme, photography, and design to alternative copy, marketing, and leadership. Two tracks were offered to provide beginning and advanced instruction. Local Middle and High School advisers along with representatives from area publishers presented sessions to engage staff members and gave examples to add to next year’s publications.
Lunch time brought an opportunity for adviser time while students learned about using social media from Derby High yearbook staff. Wichita South High adviser, Jeff Welch shared about design trends and led team building games. Middle Schoolers left inspired to lead their staff to create great yearbooks.
