Journalism students and staffs and advisers from across Kansas made an impressive showing at the spring JEAN/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Seattle, April 24-26.
Two advisers earned national recognition at the convention adviser luncheon. Shawnee Mission South adviser Tucker Love was named a JEA Distinguished Yearbook Adviser for his outstanding work as the adviser of the Heritage for the last seven years. Love’s students have won NSPA Yearbook Pacemaker and Pacemaker finalist honors during that time. Love was the local chair of the spring NHSJC in Kansas in April 2024 and is president of the Journalism Educators of Metropolitan Kansas City.
Blue Valley Northwest adviser Jim McCrossen was honored with the JEA Lifetime Achievement Award for his consistent and meaningful service to the profession of advising. McCrossen has been advising since 1991, and his students have won NSPA Pacemakers and KSPA state awards on a consistent basis. McCrossen has also served as president of KSPA (twice) and director of the Jayhawk Media Workshop (twice). Jim has been a mentor to so many Kansas advisers over the years, and his work at Blue Valley Northwest is admired across Kansas and the nation.
