Alyssa Parsons from Shawnee Mission West High School won KSPA’s January Photo of the Month competition with this photo of a West coach hoisting his daughter on his shoulders. Judges were impressed with the technical quality of the shot, as well as the poignancy of the moment. Parsons’ photo, one of 20 in the contest, was awarded Best of Show distinction by photojournalism professors at the University of Kansas’ School of Journalism.
