KSPA is proud to welcome National Geographic photographer Jim Richardson to the KSPA State Celebration as our keynote speaker.

Jim Richardson

One of the most decorated and celebrated journalists in Kansas history, Jim Richardson brings his decades of expertise to KSPA State as our keynote speaker. Richardson traveled the world for National Geographic photographing many of the issues that define our time, including the changing realities of food. Richardson also brings unique insights into photographing in Kansas high schools: his book “High School USA” documented one school year in a rural Kansas school, creating a photographic yearbook unlike any other.

Richardson last spoke to KSPA members in 2017 in Topeka. He lives in Lindsborg, Kansas where he and his wife own their Small World Gallery.

ADVISER LUNCH

Noon – 1:30 p.m. Adviser Luncheon in the Big 12 Room

Advisers who registered for the Luncheon should join their fellow teachers and educators in the Big 12 Room. We will celebrate the educators who earned awards during the school year, including Administrator of the Year award and Sunflower Award winners. We will also hear remarks from the Engel Award winner. The KSPA board will also update members on the upcoming year and the proceedings of this year’s board meetings.

STUDENT LUNCH

12:30-1:30 p.m. Student Lunch

Students will have two options for the KSPA Celebration at the Kansas Union. KSPA will fill the ballroom with places for students to gather for pizza, soft drinks and cookies. To pay for this lunch, advisers or students can pre-purchase tickets earlier in the day (see above). Otherwise, students can bring their $5 to the fifth floor at 12:30, as we will continue to sell tickets at this time.

Lunch offerings at the Union will be very limited because of the end of the semester and the weekend event. The Market, which is the typical location for meals at the union, will be closed. While Chick-Fil-A will be open, students should expect long waits and possible shortages.

12:30-1:30 p.m. A SPECIAL JAYHAWK (AND VIDEO) LUNCH FOR STUDENTS

An alum of the KU journalism school, Travis Calvin was part of the team that created the videos that gave KU fans goosebumps in the stands of Allen Fieldhouse. For Travis, that meant hours with a video camera in hand as he witnessed basketball history during the Jayhawks tournament championship in New Orleans. Come hear how he made these videos with the staff at Rock Chalk Video and watch some of the great moments he captured.
