Sunflower Award

Barbara Tholen of Lawrence High School has been named the winner of the 2013 Sunflower Award. A three-judge panel unanimously selected Tholen for the award.

The Sunflower recognizes a new adviser who shows enthusiasm and dedication to building a strong journalism program and aims to encourage him/her to remain in the profession. Tholen, a former reporter with The Topeka Capital-Journal and now in her third year at LHS, will receive a scholarship to a Kansas workshop, a plaque, and a complimentary one-year membership to KSPA.

She will be honored at the KSPA State Contest brunch on May 4 in Lawrence.
