Due to the school closures announced yesterday, it is with great sadness that we have decided to cancel the 2020 Middle School Mail-In Contest. As schools are closed, we worry that teachers will not have access to files, prints, school finances and so much more that they rely on to enter the contest.
It is true that the high school State Contest is still in progress, but that contest relies on the students to do most of the work individually, and they can do so remotely with the help of online submission. That seems like a huge leap for the middle school contest to take, especially given the circumstances.
We hate that we have to put this great KSPA tradition on hold, especially with how many great entries we have seen and how encouraging these awards have been for young journalists. But we think it is the best decision.
Thank you for your understanding, and for working with us during this uncertain time.
